Principal Clarinet

Andrew Doyle

Andrew is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has studied with prominent clarinettists worldwide. Andrew has held long-term performing positions as Principal Clarinet of The Metropolitan Orchestra, Clarinet Section Leader of the Royal Australian Navy Band, as well as performing with a variety of Australian ensembles including the Australian Haydn Ensemble, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and Sydney Philharmonia. He is currently Lecturer in Historical Clarinets at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Andrew has performed as a soloist live on ABC Classic FM (Elena Kats-Chernin’s Ornamental Air for basset clarinet and orchestra with TMO) and to sold-out concert halls including City Recital Angel Place and ABC Sydney’s Eugene Goossens Hall. He also featured performing Black Dog Rhapsody for Clarinet and Band with the Royal Australian Navy Band on their Flagship Recital CD series. Andrew is a Churchill Fellow and makes historical clarinets and modern clarinet barrels from Australian timbers.

He is currently Principal Clarinet of the Metropolitan Orchestra and has been playing with the orchestra since its inception.
