Graeme Brown – Composer
Graeme Brown, BA (ANU) is an accomplished Australian composer, orchestrator and guitarist whose distinguished career spans international touring, major theatrical productions, studio recording and symphonic composition.
Beginning his musical journey in Canberra, Graeme studied classical guitar from the age of 15 before completing a Bachelor of Arts at the Australian National University, majoring in Applied Mathematics and Human Sciences. Awarded an Arts Council grant early in his career, he undertook advanced studies in classical and jazz guitar with renowned guitarist Don Andrews in Sydney, alongside composition studies with leading Australian composer Don Banks.
As a performer, Graeme has toured and recorded with an impressive roster of international artists including Michael Crawford, Bernadette Peters, Sarah Brightman, Lea Salonga and Paloma Faith. His extensive theatre credits include major productions such as West Side Story, Miss Saigon, Chicago, The Lion King, Wicked and Mary Poppins.
Graeme has also performed widely with Australia’s leading orchestras, including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and is a regular collaborator with The Metropolitan Orchestra. His orchestral work spans a diverse repertoire, from contemporary concert series and film music performances to major broadcast productions including BBC presentations of the Blue Planet and Doctor Who.
As a composer and orchestrator, Graeme has been commissioned for significant national projects. Highlights include work for the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts and the ABC television production Once In A Blue Moon, both conducted by Brian Stacey. He has contributed orchestrations to Opera Australia productions, as well as major recordings for artists such as Marina Prior and Yvonne Kenny. His arrangements have also featured in large-scale concerts and national broadcasts, including the NRL Grand Final and State of Origin opening ceremonies.
In addition to his orchestral work, Graeme’s own compositions include Endangered Species, The Book of Dreams and Celluloid Snapshots, alongside his contemporary EP Celestial Fantasties.
