Asia Pacific Competition Winners Join TMO

On August 2nd, Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition winners The Lyrebird Trio, will appear for the first time ever with full orchestra when they perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO).

In July 2013, The Lyrebird Trio beat professional contestants from around Australia and the Asia Pacific Region to win both piano trio prizes at the quadrennial Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition: the Beluera Prize for best piano trio, and the Peter Druce Audience Prize. They subsequently featured in the ABC documentary “Ivory, Strings and Bows” broadcast in over 40 countries, as well as performing throughout Canada as the 2014 Winter Musicians-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts.

“These are 3 extraordinarily accomplished musicians, each having very impressive performance histories as soloists and members of orchestras around the world.  As a trio though, this is their first ever appearance with orchestra and represents an incredible coup for Sydney, and for TMO in their inaugural orchestral performance. We are very honoured to have them join our MET series this year,” said Sarah-Grace Williams, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor with TMO.

Featuring principal musicians from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, The Lyrebird Trio have already delivered performances at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Sydney Opera House, Port Fairy Spring Music Festival plus broadcasts for ABC-Classic FM. 2014 also marks the Lyrebird Trio’s first season as Ensemble-In-Residence at the Queensland Conservatorium. The evening’s performance will open with Mozart’s popular and energetic Le Nozze di Figaro Overture and close with Dvorak’s cheerful and optimistic Symphony No 8. Following several sell-out concerts at Eugene Goossens Hall, the August performance will continue TMO’s astonishing 2014 concert season with another incredible first with Australia’s finest chamber trio.
