Conductor: Sarah-Grace Williams
Event Date: Sat 5th December 7:00 pm

The Metropolitan Orchestra will finish 2020 just as it started, with lots of energy, excitement and plenty of much loved live music including the return of a favourite Australian work.

This exclusive, COVID friendly event has very limited access with a maximum of only 70 guests allowed to attend with applicable social distancing rules applying. For those who are unable to secure one of the very limited tickets to this live performance, this event will be streamed live and recorded for future online presentation.

The concert opens with Beethoven’s arousing and emotional Coriolan Overture. Written for Heinrich Joseph von Collin’s 1804 tragedy, this work reflects the feeling of tragedy and despair that many artists have felt during 2020. Coyle’s Dancing With Billy Bray explores the exuberant, energetic joy that is so characteristic of Billy Bray. The music reveals an irrepressible energy that not only reflects Billy’s dynamism, but reflect’s TMO’s optimism in a positive and musical future as we rise from the ashes of 2020. The evening of music will come to an emotional and powerful end with Mendelssohn’s Symphony no 4, Italian. First performed by The Metropolitan Orchestra (then called Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra) in our first ever concert in April of 2009, it is a fitting piece to be included in what is a re-emergence and new beginning for our orchestra. From its vigorous opening through to the lively conclusion, this piece reflects the energy and excitement that every musician of the orchestra feels to be back performing live in concert.
